THE TIMELINE

1865- Construction begins on the museum on land donated by Richard Sommers Gard, MP for Exeter from 1857 to 1864.

1894- The building receives its first extension.

2011- The museum reopened on 15 December 2011 after a four year redevelopment costing £24 million


  

INTERESTING FACT 

The original name of the museum was the Devon and Exeter Albert Memorial. It changed its name in 1898.
